Multicast Networks prepares to launch wavelet technology.

MCNSports, a wholly owned subsidiary of Multicast Networks Holdings Incorporated, today announced that wavelet based video compression technology is currently in active development.

Peter Gervais, Vice-President of Engineering for MCN Holdings, says “Wavelet is a type of video codec (encoder / decoder) that is specifically designed to be utilized with the Internet. It has several advantages over other compression techniques as follows.”.

•  More resilient if packets are lost during transmission

•  An infinite number of lower-resolution streams can easily be decoded from a single ‘parent' stream

•  Lower bandwidth usage

•  Capable of handling high-definition broadcasts

Gervais adds, “Wavelet will be the cornerstone of our peer-to-peer network development and will put MCN at the forefront of streaming technology.”
